During peak ticket selling times, Fandango.com was selling approximately 17 tickets per second. Online ticket sales and mobile ticketing applications are growing increasingly popular as a quick solution to purchase movie tickets, “Fandango’s record-breaking percentage of the film’s opening weekend is a testament to the growing popularity of online and mobile ticketing as the way to go to the movies,” says Fandango Executive Vice President and General Manager Rick Butler. AMC Entertainment released an announcement that details key features of the application including show times, locations, ticket purchase and special offers and discounts that are exclusive only to the app user. The application also alerts the user of new and upcoming movies, when tickets become available and provides various movie trailers that consumers can easily watch from their smartphones and tablets. With the AMC Entertainment “My Movies” function, users can create a list of movies they want to see, find additional information about new releases and notifications about advance ticket sales.
